Make Dental Visits Easier for Nervous Kids
Nitrous oxide – Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is a very safe and mild sedative agent that helps most patients feel calmer and more relaxed. We utilize nitrous oxide every day in our practice. Primarily, it is provided to patients during treatment visits to help them feel more comfortable while we work on their teeth. While nitrous oxide is a fairly effective tool for most kids, it is not always enough to overcome the anxiety or other challenges that some patients experience.
General Anesthesia – For some patients, the most safe, effective and merciful way to address their dental needs is by having them put under general anesthesia to complete their work. Typically, these patients are too young to cooperate, need extensive treatment, experience severe dental anxiety, have special needs, or some combination of these things.
General Anesthesia is a deep level of sedation – The same that would be provided to your child if they were getting their tonsils removed or having a different surgical procedure done. They are completely asleep and won’t have any memories of the event. This allows us to do the best work that we can and in a way that is efficient and won’t traumatize the patient.
Safety is our top priority, which is why we partner with Premier Dental Anesthesia group for our general anesthesia cases. They come to our office to provide this valuable service. Each one of their anesthesiologists is board-certified and they come with an experienced nurse as well. They are the ones who will actually put the patients to sleep and monitor their vital signs throughout. We have done hundreds of cases with Premier Dental Anesthesia over the years and have always been impressed with and grateful for the quality of care that they render. If your child needs treatment done under general anesthesia, they are in great hands with Premier!
